There’s a lot to love about the look of straight teeth. It’s a pity then that so few of us are blessed with two perfect rows.
Sometimes the problem is a wonky tooth or two, other times there are significant misalignments. Orthodontics focuses on the alignment of these outliers. It follows that orthodontics concerns itself with the moving of these misaligned, crooked or crowded teeth. This is often done using braces, but there are other interventions aimed at improving the bite too.
When you’re looking to straighten a crooked smile, Simply Dental offers a range of orthodontic services to correct misalignments and gently guide teeth into better positions, improving the look and functionality of your smile. These include removable and fixed options.
Better braces: FastBraces vs Invisalign
In the past, the most common form of tooth realignment has been braces. Traditional braces aren’t much fun, however. Treatment can take years, they’re difficult to clean, adjustments cause discomfort and they’re not much to look at.
Fortunately, orthodontics has come a long way in recent years. Two of the most popular options on the market are FastBraces and Invisalign. Both will straighten your teeth, but which option is best for you depends on your circumstances.

Fast Braces
Once upon a time, a crooked smile meant fixed braces and fixed braces took years to work. These days, modern technology provides much faster results.
FastBraces are one popular option, producing results in about half the time of traditional braces, making them a good option for those deterred by the perceived long wait time of standard metal braces.
FastBraces use flexible wires and modern triangular-shaped brackets to guide teeth into position. With ceramic brackets and tooth coloured wire available, aesthetically, FastBraces offer a vast improvement on traditional braces (but re not entirely invisible either).
Application is a simple process and extractions are rarely required. Results can be achieved in as little as a few months.
Pros: Much faster than traditional braces
Cons: Non-removable
Invisalign
Invisalign offers a twist on traditional braces. Instead of using wires and brackets, Invisalign uses a series of custom-made clear plastic retainers that can be worn over teeth – and taken off – at will.
Custom retainers are worn for 6-8 weeks then switched out for the next in the series. While more severe misalignments are outside the capabilities of retainer-based systems, Invisalign is a very good option for adults who want a gentle treatment as well as the ability to remove their device from time to time.
Pros: Inconspicuous, removable, comfortable
Cons: Not a good option for significant realignments
